Poor demand means rapeseed market thinly traded

Oilseed Rape

UK rapeseed prices remain subdued as poor European demand weighs on prices. Diesel use is well down and hence biodiesel demand correspondingly lower. This means problems with rapeseed oil storage reaching capacity and crushers needing to slow down to manage off take accordingly.

However, growers do not seem in a hurry to sell anyway, as new crop issues persist. Recent rains will be welcome but if it turns dry again in April throughout Europe, we suspect prices may bounce again as supply issues come to the forefront. Ex farm prices in England range from £305 to £310 ex for spot, less £10 in Scotland. Harvest prices are similar.

Oats

Demand for oats is good as stay at home Britain has plenty of time for breakfast cereals. United Oilseeds has completed another feed oat export out of Ipswich and hopefully any old crop carry over of oats will be limited.

Concerns over quality for next season though mean that feed oats are well offered on the export market, as the perception is that dry weather and late plantings will cause low bushel weight and high screenings.

On the other hand, a lower amount of usable milling oats could be viewed as price friendly if you have the quality. We therefore advise growers to pay careful attention to agronomic detail in order to achieve a product of the correct quality.

We still have open our spring oat pool which offers access to various stores for harvest movement. Also, any growers contemplating Mascani winter oats for harvest 2021, should consider our growers contract at a wheat futures related price while space is still available.

Beans

Old crop prices are still buoyant but a big drop to new crop means this may not last. We have various contracts available for new crop feed or human consumption. Please talk to your local United Oilseeds Area Manager for further details.

Owen
