Markets on defensive

UK rapeseed prices have fallen this week, tracking values on Matif and Chicago soya beans. Harvest of rapeseed has now finished in most areas with values back to £310 ex in Scotland and £320 ex farm in England.

Soya bean prices have falling on better yield estimates for the US crop and weaker Brazilian currency, which makes their estimates more competitive.

Wheat prices have also been falling which is making rapeseed sales look comparatively more attractive. However, growers do not seem to be in a hurry to release rapeseed on the market and whilst crush margins are relatively good in the spot position, this should keep prices supported.
