James Francis has harvested 20 hectares of Eiffel at his farm in Hemington, Somerset, achieving an average yield of 4.7t/ha. James noted that the Eiffel proved easier to cut than other varieties as it was overly tall. He is intending to grow 70 acres of Eiffel again this year, and if he can finish his wheat harvest soon enough, will plant an additional 65 acres of Cabernet. For more details click here
Two of UOM's long established members have reported excellent yields on their Cabernet.
George Topham in Cambridgeshire has achieved the highest ever rape yield on his farm. He has just finished a block of 168 acres of Cabernet which was broadcasted into the stubble, i.e. no cultivation and he has averaged 1.96t/acre.
Good news too from Kent. Andrew Cragg is thrilled to announce that he has just finished harvesting his cabernet, achieving 4.98t/ha over 21.07ha uncleaned weighbridge weight, moisture 8.0-8.5%

This early maturing variety has returned encouraging results from the South West
Chris Wilson of Dillington was very happy with the variety achieving 195.2ton form 44.21ha yielding 4.4t/ha (25ac field 5.1t/ha) and Chris will now extend planting to 96ha this time
James Francis in Somerset recorded 96ton from 20ha yielding 4.8t/ha. James is very pleased and will look to plant another 20ha this time
Both these leading UOM recommended varieties are proving to outclass long time leader Castille, which now appears to have run its race!

Market closed up €1.75. France revised up its yields on OSR from 4.5mil/t to 4.7mil/t however this is still down on its record '09 crop by 15%.
