Skye yields 4.2 t/ha for Suffolk Grower

Date Added: 05/08/2016

Suffolk grower Robert Wright is particularly pleased with his seed crop of Skye oilseed rape as it yields over 4.2 t/ha from a 12 ha area.

"Over four tonnes per hectare is a particularly good result for hereabouts, as surrounding yields have been less impressive.  I am not surprised by Skye's admirable performance, as it always looked a good crop and was vigorous in the autumn and established well," says Robert, who farms near Beccles.

"It was a very uniform in appearance and covered the ground well. I also liked the fact that it did not grow too tall and consequently was easy to harvest.  We had no issues with flea beetle which probably helped.” he continues.

Skye is the highest yielding conventional variety on the AHDB's E/W Candidate List 2016-17 with a gross output of 106%.  It also has a top "9" rating for lodging and an "8"for stem stiffness, plus two "6's" for stem canker and light leaf spot.

Skye represents a good progression for growers who have previously grown Camelot or Charger.
