Rapeseed prices have been recovering this week from the sharp sell off on Monday as commodity and stock markets encountered the turmoil of Chinese uncertainty. Values in the UK typically range from £235 ex farm in Scotland to £247 ex farm in England for September movement. £250 is now again achievable in many areas for the autumn.

Yields in the UK continue to be better than expected and a 2.5 million tonne crop for UK is certainly attainable. France and Germany are still reporting yields within expectations, so an EU crop between 21.5 to 22 million tonnes is still on the cards. Also, the situation in Canada still needs monitoring as some early frosts have hit unripe crops. The latest Statscan figure of 13.30 million tonnes will no doubt need further revision as harvest really gets going in September.
