Don’t Miss the Pool to Ensure Rapeseed Profits

Date Added: 09/02/2010

Oilseed rape growers are being advised to act quickly if they want to secure the best market price for this year's rapeseed harvest.

United Oilseeds has so far achieved an average crop price for harvest 2010 that is in excess of £10 per tonne more advantageous than current market prices. But growers only have until the end of March to register their crops via the company's harvest pool marketing scheme.

"By forward selling crops at a peak in the market, we have been able to secure a harvest pool price that is considerably higher than the current deflated market value," explains Owen Cligg, trading manager at United Oilseeds.

Applications for the United Oilseeds Harvest 2010 Pool close on 31st March 2010. "Growers who want to capitalise on the price security that our harvest pool offers need to act quickly," Mr Cligg continues. The United Oilseeds pool also offers the advantage of being based on hectares rather tonnes, so the grower can confidently commit his crop without fear of default in the case of crop failure.

"Given the level of volatility that is currently being shown within the market, it is impossible to predict how prices will react between now and harvest time. How much growers are willing to gamble with the price they receive for this year's crop is an individual decision, but those who are uncertain what to do and who want to secure a healthy forward price should sign and return their contracts without delay or risk missing out," Mr Cligg adds.

"United Oilseeds is the UK's largest pool marketing company and we consistently return a price to our members, that is considerably higher than the market average. Our close working relationship with all the main oilseed customers in the UK and Europe, and access to the very latest market information, allow us to maximise crop prices on behalf of, and to the benefit of our farmer members."
