Pollen Beetle Warning!

Date Added: 14/04/2009

We have seen pollen beetle numbers on winter rape build as temperatures have risen.

In most years this rise is gradual, and numbers rarely exceed the threshold of 10-15 beetles per plant. However this year we have heard reports from the North East of England where this threshold has been exceeded and spraying is necessary.

Growers are reminded that only one approved pyrethroid can be applied to control pollen beetle. We are aware of pollen beetle that are resistant to pyrethroids presently in coastal and South East England. In these cases a neonicotinoid spray e.g. Biscaya should be used.
